The Coaching Question Bank
1,725 ICF-aligned questions, searchable by theme, moment, and situation. The first question is rarely the one that matters — that's why every card comes with follow-up logic built in.
See It in Action
Not a question list. Every card includes the question, when to use it, coaching tips, a caution, and follow-up questions — so you always know where to go next.
Mid-session, after a client describes what they should do. Opens space to separate inherited expectations from authentic desire.
Ask, then stay quiet. Resist filling the silence — the most honest answer often arrives in the second breath.
Who It's For
Whether you're still in training or early in your ACC career, the challenge is the same: more range, more depth, more confidence in the room.
"I know I should ask an open question — but my mind goes blank when the client pauses."
Ask Better gives you a structured reference you can search mid-prep or mid-reflection. Every question is tagged by ICF competency, coaching moment, and depth — so you're never guessing what fits where.
"I keep going back to the same five questions. I know I'm not going deep enough."
Ask Better expands your range across 11 themes and 10 coaching moments — from opening rapport through action planning to follow-up. Each question comes with follow-up logic built in, so one good question becomes three.
What's Inside
Every question comes with a coaching tip, a caution, what to listen for, and follow-up questions — already written. Not just a list. A reference you'll actually reach for.
Every question mapped to the 8 ICF core competencies — useful for reflection and CPD evidence.
Filter by where you are in the session — Chemistry, Opening, Exploration, Action, Closing, Follow-up, and more.
Surface, Intermediate, or Deep. Pick the right question for where the client actually is.
11 situations — stuck, avoiding, emotionally activated, intellectualising, at a crossroads, and more.
When to use this question, what to listen for, and what not to do. Built the way a good supervisor would — not just what to ask, but when not to.
When the client answers, you already know where to go next. The drill-down is where the real work happens.

Sample Questions
A small taste of what's inside — each with a follow-up, a tip, and a caution already written.
"What would you need to believe about yourself for that to be possible?"
"What would the version of you that already solved this do differently right now?"
"When you imagine yourself five years from now looking back, what decision will you be glad you made?"
"What is the smallest step you can take this week that would still feel like movement?"
About the Creator
Coach & Founder, The Clarity Practice · Singapore
The questions in Ask Better weren't written by someone who read a coaching manual. Before this work, I spent years as a detective in London — trained in advanced interviewing techniques, working as a Family Liaison Officer supporting families through sudden loss. Later, I worked in end-of-life care in California. Those roles taught me what a well-timed question can do to a person, and what the wrong one costs.
Today I coach C-suite leaders, founders, and NGO executives across Asia through The Clarity Practice. Ask Better is the tool I built because I kept wishing it existed — and still reach for it now.

FAQ
Who is Ask Better for?
Coaches working toward their ACC credential and those in the early years of their coaching practice. It's also useful for experienced coaches who want to expand into new coaching niches.
Is this aligned with ICF competencies?
Yes. Every question is tagged to one or more of the 8 ICF core competencies. The filtering system lets you browse by competency, which is useful for reflection and portfolio development.
How do I access the app after purchase?
You'll receive an email with your access link immediately after payment. The app runs in any browser — no download, no installation.
Is this a subscription?
No. One-time purchase of USD $97. Pay once and have permanent access — including all future updates and question packs.
What does "permanent access" mean exactly?
It means access for the commercial life of the Ask Better platform — not a fixed term, not a subscription. If we ever decide to retire the platform, we'll give all existing customers at least 30 days' written notice. Your one-time fee includes all content updates (new questions added to the existing bank). If we ever release a substantially rebuilt version, that may be priced separately — but we'd offer existing customers preferential pricing. Full details in our Terms, section 24.
Can I use this during coaching sessions?
Ask Better is designed for session preparation and post-session reflection — not as an in-session lookup tool. The goal is that you internalise the range and quality of questions over time, not read from a screen while your client is talking.
Who built this?
Ask Better is built by Gary McRae — ACC-credentialed coach and founder of The Clarity Practice, based in Singapore. Before coaching, Gary spent years as a detective in London, including as a Family Liaison Officer working with families through sudden loss, and later in end-of-life care in California. That background shaped a deep understanding of what the right question — at the right moment — actually does. Ask Better is built on that.
Why is the price $97?
Because a single mentor coaching session costs $250–$500. A good question bank is something you use every week of your coaching career — before sessions, during reflection, for CPD. The price reflects that. If you're looking for a PDF of 30 generic questions, there are cheaper options. If you want 1,725 questions with follow-up logic, tips, and cautions built in, this is it.
What is your refund policy?
We offer a 14-day refund window for users who have not yet logged into the app. Once you access the question bank, your right of withdrawal is waived — this is standard for digital content under UK/EU consumer law. If you hit a technical issue that blocks access, email us within 14 days and we'll fix it or refund you. Full refund policy →
